Kewaskum, WI—(May 7, 2025)—The Village of Kewaskum officially opened the doors to its newly completed Village Hall and Police Department with a ribbon-cutting and open house event on Wednesday, May 7. Community members joined village officials to celebrate the occasion with guided tours, light refreshments, and a look inside the spaces now serving as a central hub for local government and public safety.
A MILESTONE YEARS IN THE MAKING: The project replaces a facility that could no longer meet The Village's growing needs. The new building features a state-of-the-art board room, a fully equipped police department with evidence and squad room spaces, and a dedicated community room for events and meetings. This modernized government center reflects The Village’s commitment to serving current and future generations with facilities built for longevity and adaptability.
HONORING SERVICE AND LEGACY: In addition to the ribbon cutting, the event included dedications honoring former Village Administrator Daniel Schmidt and retired Police Chief and current Trustee Richard Knoebel, whose decades of service have helped shape Kewaskum’s history. Their names now grace spaces within the new government center, connecting the community’s past leadership to its future.
A LASTING INVESTMENT: Village officials highlighted the building’s design for long-term use, supporting both present needs and future growth. The project aligns with Kewaskum’s vision for downtown revitalization and enhanced community engagement.
CELEBRATING 130 YEARS: In addition to celebrating the opening of the new government center, The Village observed the 130th anniversary of Kewaskum’s incorporation. The event symbolized progress and a new chapter for the community, commemorating the historic election held on May 7, 1895, and the growth since then.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS AND COMMUNITY IMPACT: Village President Fuzz Martin expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the creation of this new facility, including village staff, C.D. Smith, Excel Engineering, and the community. He emphasized the building's role in supporting transparency, accessibility, and engagement, reflecting the village’s commitment to an open and accountable local government.
LOOKING AHEAD: With the new government center officially open, Kewaskum is strengthening community connections and supporting the needs of its residents. The new space creates a place where local government is more accessible, transparent, and connected to the people it serves. As we look to the future, this facility lays a strong foundation for continued growth, community pride, and a revitalized downtown at the heart of it all.

The Village of Kewaskum recently held a demolition bash and groundbreaking event to celebrate the start of construction for a new Community Building.
CATCH UP QUICK: The existing municipal building is too small and lacks essential amenities to be sufficient. Though grateful for the facility that has served the community well for the past 75 years, the police department has outgrown the space. Discussions about a new Village Hall began in 2019. After years of planning, the project is finally underway.
THE BIG PICTURE: The new government center will contain the village hall and the police department. Demolishing the old government center will make way for a new community building with enough space for civic and government organizations to provide the best service to its people. This thoughtfully designed facility will serve the community for years to come. Importantly, there will be a dedicated community space within the new center, ensuring that residents have a place to gather for events, meetings, and programs.
WHY IT MATTERS: The Village of Kewaskum's demolition and groundbreaking celebration signifies the beginning of a new chapter that moves Kewaskum forward. In the spirit of progress and community development, the demolition/reconstruction kickoff symbolizes innovation and unity that makes the community proud to call Kewaskum home.
BUILDING THE FUTURE: The event culminated with ceremonial demolition and groundbreaking photos with Village Board members and representatives from the Kewaskum Police Department, Police & Fire Commission, C.D. Smith Construction and Excel Engineering. All parties expressed their excitement about collaborating on this project to ensure that Kewaskum has a government center equipped to serve its growing community today and for future generations.
