Construction is underway on the City of Port Washington’s new Public Safety Building, a consolidated police and fire/EMS facility designed to improve emergency response coordination and long term community resilience. Located at County Highway LL and State Highway 33, the project modernizes emergency infrastructure with future focused design. C.D. Smith Construction is serving as Construction Manager, bringing public safety facility experience across Wisconsin.
Construction on a new Public Safety Building in Port Washington is underway. The facility will house both Police and Fire/Emergency Medical Service (EMS) departments under one roof. Located at the intersection of County Hwy LL and State Hwy 33, the project addresses the city’s growing need for a more efficient, modernized emergency response infrastructure.
Existing, older fire and police buildings no longer meet the demands of a growing community or the technological needs of modern emergency services. The new facility consolidates operations, improving communication, response times and interdepartmental coordination. Designed with future growth in mind, it will include advanced dispatch systems, vehicle access routing and energy-efficient infrastructure.
The C.D. Smith Construction is serving as the Construction Manager for this project and brings experience in constructing public safety facilities across Wisconsin, including recent projects in Madison, Fond du Lac, Kewaskum and Milwaukee.
C.D. Smith understands that these facilities are more than infrastructures—they’re lifelines for the community. That’s why we approach every public safety project with the same goal: to deliver a space that supports rapid response, fosters wellness for staff and instills pride for the community it serves.
“We work side-by-side with police, fire, EMS departments and architects to deliver purpose-built spaces that enhance safety and performance. Our ability to self-perform critical aspects of construction—such as foundations, structural framing and finish work—bringing greater control over quality, budget and scheduling, sets us apart. Our collaborative approach and boots-on-the-ground experience allow us to translate stakeholder input into high-functioning, durable and energy-efficient buildings.”
Cory Henschel, Vice President, C.D. Smith Construction
The Port Washington tower begins to take shape.
"The City of Port Washington is impressed by C.D. Smith’s strong ownership and coordination with local subcontractors. A small but meaningful gesture—placing a US flag atop the crane—sparked community pride and appreciation for the project."
Ted Neitzke IV, Mayor, City of Port Washington
