Did you know that across the United States, a staggering 2-3% of children don't have a bed to call their own? Instead, they sleep on couches, blankets or even the cold floor. This "bed-lessness" can impact their health, emotional well-being and even academic performance.
We couldn't bear the thought of even one child facing that reality in Fond du Lac. So, on January 19th and 20th, C.D. Smith and Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) joined forces and gave back to our community by hosting our third annual Bed Build Event.
SHP is a national non-profit organization dedicated to building and delivering bunk beds to children in need. Their motto: No kid sleeps on the floor in our town®!
With SHP's motto as our battle cry, our talented team of volunteers transformed raw lumber into 87 dream-worthy bunk beds. While furnishing a safe and comfortable place to sleep for over eighty children, we provided an indoor space to help SHP's Fond du Lac chapter hold a crucial winter bed build.
But it doesn't stop there. Not only did we ensure SHP's mission continued in the chilly grip of January, we're going beyond the workshop to give back by helping fully furnish beds with bedding drives and financial contributions. C.D. Smith is a firm believer in community and supports many local organizations through sponsorship programs and monetary donations in the communities in which we live and work.
