Major Safety Milestone Achieved
Safety First Culture Pays Off
FOND DU LAC, WI, January 10, 2020—One million man hours have passed without a lost-time injury at C.D. Smith Construction, a milestone that demonstrates the company’s commitment to keeping their employees safe on the job.
A lost-time injury is any injury that prevents an employee from returning to work after the incident. Safety Director, Joe Pausha credits the support from executive leaders and commitment from field leadership to making this outstanding achievement possible. “Beginning with our president Justin Smith, our entire company is committed to our safety program. The program alone doesn’t keep our people safe, the commitment to safety by every employee does,” states Pausha. “People are taking daily ownership of safety and have truly embraced our company-wide campaign, “Think Safe. Work Safe.” creating a safety-first culture.”
As part of the company’s commitment to safety, every meeting begins with safety. Each job site Superintendent starts each workday with a morning safety talk and all company wide meetings kick off with safety statistics and updates, Dedicated safety personnel and field leadership conduct daily inspections on the job site to address any issues before injuries occur. With a proactive approach, fewer accidents occur which lead to fewer injuries to valued employees.
C.D. Smith employees take pride in the work that they do, no matter the project size or scale. A key to great projects and safety achievements is hiring the right people. The operations and leadership teams carefully select people who possess the skills and traits that have contributed to the success of C.D.
