Fond du Lac, WI – (July 14, 2022) –Fond du Lac Blue Line Club is breaking ground on a 2,800 SF addition to include three female locker rooms. One for the WarBirds and two secondary locker rooms for youth athletes. C.D. Smith Construction has been hired as general contractor joined by J.F. Ahern Heating, Leasa Electric, Ahern Gross Plumbing, Spies Painting, Twohig Floor America, Tom Micklejohn Architects, JF Lopez Roofing and Baumhardt Sand & Gravel as trade partners. Facility completion is scheduled for early Fall 2022.
"After eight years of growing our all-female youth hockey teams, I am proud to have steady numbers of female youth players aging into our Warbirds high school co-op. We offer all girls teams from 8U through 14U, and these youth locker rooms will be put to great use. Our community has been very generous towards this project, we are all very grateful." Christine Rottman, Fond du Lac Blue Line Girls Hockey Director
Growth of the sport and the expanded interest of female teams, leagues and high school participation has grown through the decades.
“Women have been putting up partitions and using the public restrooms as a locker room changing station and the time has come to make room for the ladies at Blue Line. This has been a long time coming and we are happy to make this upgrade for our Blue Line family and the community,” comments Erik Spies, FDL Blue Line Board Member.
The Bears and Blue Line have a long-standing relationship in Fond du Lac. Dating back to the 1920s, the men’s hockey team gathered in one of two outdoor rinks at Goodrich High School. The current structure built on the county fairgrounds was completed in 1966, marking the first time the Fond du Lac Bears and youth hockey went indoors.
Mission: The Fond du Lac Blue Line Club and Family Ice Center is a non-profit skating facility that supports the development of skating among people of all ages and abilities. The Center, through education and training, helps develop amateur athletes for local, regional, national and international competition in skating sports. In addition, it actively promotes the mental, physical, emotional and social needs of our youth who participate in ice hockey, figure skating and other various ice sports.
This addition is made possible through generous donations from community partners. Fundraising efforts for this project continue. If you are interested in supporting this project and the Fond du Lac Blue Line Club and Family Ice Center, please email Erik at firstname.lastname@example.org.
