Forensic Science & Protective Medicine Facility

C.D. Smith served as Construction Manager for the Forensic Science and Protective Medicine Facility, a $204 million, 217,150-square-foot facility located on the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center campus in Wauwatosa. Delivered using the CM At Risk method and designed by Desman Inc., the facility brings together the Wisconsin State Crime Lab, Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office, Office of Emergency Management and Versiti in a single, highly specialized environment designed to support forensic science, emergency response and medical investigation.

Among the facility's most specialized elements are advanced crime labs, autopsy suites, evidence storage, a firing range, emergency management operations and complex mechanical systems engineered to maintain strict environmental separation between sensitive spaces. By co-locating critical agencies under one roof, the facility improves collaboration, streamlines operations and strengthens the region's ability to respond to public safety and forensic challenges.

Construction Leadership and self-perfom expertise

Completed in April 2026, the project required extensive coordination on an active healthcare campus. C.D. Smith self-performed sitework, concrete, masonry, steel erection, parking garage precast installation, GFRC façade installation, rough carpentry and millwork, maintaining quality, safety and schedule control throughout construction. The project was delivered on time and on budget while creating a purpose-built environment that will support Southeast Wisconsin for decades to come.

The Gale and Paul Kirby Library and Student Resource Center at UW-Stevens Point replaces the former Albertson Hall with a four-story, 150,000 SF facility that consolidates library resources, academic archives and student support services under one roof.
