Historic Lakefront Venue Reimagined

The Commodore — A Bartolotta Restaurant sits on the shores of Nagawicka Lake in Delafield, Wisconsin. C.D. Smith provided construction management, general contracting and self-perform services to transform the former Seven Seas restaurant into a 34,000-square-foot dining and event destination.

Completed in June 2023, the renovation preserved the character of the historic lakefront property while introducing updated spaces designed for modern hospitality and events.

Expanding Dining and Event Capabilities

The renovation introduced new spaces designed to support both everyday dining and large gatherings.

The completed facility includes:

• A main dining room on the ground floor
• An upper-level gathering space overlooking the lake
• Dedicated areas for private events and weddings
• Outdoor spaces including a pavilion and patio

These additions allow the venue to accommodate a wider range of experiences while strengthening its connection to the surrounding lakefront setting.

Renovation Scope and Site Enhancements

The project included comprehensive interior, exterior and site improvements to modernize the facility and support expanded use.

Work included:

• Structural demolition and interior reconfiguration
• Installation of updated building systems, including HVAC and fire protection
• Construction of dining, event and support spaces
• Exterior upgrades, including siding, roofing and window replacements
• Site improvements, including outdoor gathering areas and landscape enhancements

Preserving History While Modernizing the Experience

The Commodore renovation balances historic preservation with modern functionality.

The project maintains the identity of the original building while introducing updated finishes, improved layouts and enhanced amenities that support current hospitality and event expectations.
