BREAKING GROUND AND CELEBRATING GROWTH

Freedom Area School District Board Members and project team symbolically turning soil during the May 2025 groundbreaking ceremony.

FREEDOM, Wis. – (May 14, 2025) – Freedom Area School District hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to officially kick off construction on a district-wide capital improvement project that will modernize learning environments and expand educational opportunities for students and staff.Freedom High School Band and Cheerleaders welcome guests with a spirited performance at the groundbreaking celebration.

CEREMONY HIGHLIGHTS

The event brought together students, staff, families, and community leaders to celebrate the start of construction at the school district campus on County Road E.

Highlights from the celebration included:

  • A spirited welcome by the Freedom High School Cheerleaders and Band
  • The National Anthem performed by Elisabeth Van Schyndel
  • Remarks from:
    • Tom Harke, Board President
    • Jill Mussett, District Administrator
    • Ryan Sands, Bray Architects
    • Marc McGuire, C.D. Smith Construction
  • A symbolic turning of the soil to mark the official start of construction

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS | WHY IT MATTERS

This project has been in the works since April 2024, when voters approved a $62.5 million referendum. The investment will address aging infrastructure, expand program offerings, enhance safety, and create flexible, future-ready learning environments for students and staff.

Coming soon to Freedom Middle and High Schools:

  • New and renovated learning spaces for middle and high school students
  • Flexible classrooms and labs designed for hands-on, collaborative learning
  • Upgraded technical education and music education areas
  • A new cafeteria and kitchen

  • A larger greenhouse to support agriculture education
  • Enhanced safety with relocated entrances and improved traffic flow
  • Energy-efficient upgrades, including HVAC systems and natural lighting

WHAT'S NEXT?

Construction is now underway, with visible progress expected throughout the summer and into the 2025–26 school year. The district will continue to share updates and celebrate key milestones as work advances.
