Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) bed build gets 91 kids off the floor.

On January 20th and 21st of this year, C.D. Smith teamed up with Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) to give back to our community by hosting our second annual Bed Build Event. SHP is a national non-profit organization dedicated to building and delivering bunk beds to children in need. Their motto: No kid sleeps on the floor in our town®!

With SHP's motto as our battle cry, our talented team of volunteers built 91 beds. While providing over ninety children in need with a safe, comfortable place to sleep, we also helped SHP's Fond du Lac chapter set a new record for number of beds built at an event.

C.D. Smith supports many local organizations through sponsorship programs and monetary donations, not only in our community but also in the communities with which we work. In addition to the Bed Build, we held a bedding drive for collecting pillows, pillowcases, sheets, quilts/comforters and monetary donations for fully furnishing the beds. 

After learning that 5% of children in Fond du Lac County (6,205 kids) experience "bed-lessness," we knew we had to step up. All children deserve a safe, comfortable place to lay their heads. Across the U.S., too many boys and girls go without a bed - or even a pillow - to sleep on. These children end up sleeping on couches, blankets, and even floors. A bed is a basic need for the proper physical, emotional, and mental support a child needs and it can affect their happiness and health.
