CAMPBELLSPORT, Wis. – (Mar. 22, 2023) – The St. Matthew School community gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony at 423 Mill Street in Campbellsport, marking the beginning of construction on the anticipated Sister Marcinette Children’s Center.
The addition will feature expanded learning spaces, updated infrastructure, bathrooms, a security system and more. C.D. Smith Construction is serving as the construction manager on the project scheduled for completion at the end of 2024.
Principal Joan Schlaefer welcomed staff, parents, the public, and children, all donning their C.D. Smith Construction hard hats. The event featured a brief program with comments from key individuals, including Rick Heisler, Building Committee; Tom Dornbrook, Village President; Charlie Kudy, Village Administrator; and Amy Schneider and Chris Sabish from C.D. Smith Construction.
The project addresses the growing need for daycare spaces by constructing a new addition and renovating existing spaces. The project scope includes:

New Construction (6,220 SF):
- Four new daycare rooms catering to different age groups, including a dedicated nap room within the littles room.
- Two conveniently located bathrooms for the 2 & 3-year-old daycare room.
- A separate staff restroom.
- Ample storage capacity with two designated closets.
- A janitor's closet for cleaning supplies.

Renovation (1,184 SF):
- Modernize the two existing boys' and girls' restrooms at each end of the school.
The new addition and renovations at Sister Marcinette Children's Center embody St. Matthew School's commitment to a safe, loving and positive environment. This aligns perfectly with their daycare programming, fostering a nurturing space that serves as a stepping stone for future years at the school.
