Women in Construction: Liz Thome, Executive Assistant
What led you to the construction industry?
My father-in-law worked for C.D. Smith for 30 years prior to retirement. When I was considering a career change, I was led to C.D. Smith, as a family-owned company that values it's employees, which happened to be in the construction industry. I've never looked back!
What has been the most surprising part of being a woman working in the construction industry?
I am daily surprised by the opportunity to grow within the industry. Male or female doesn't matter; it's about my willingness to learn, grow, and get my hands dirty. The sky is the limit for women in construction!
What is your favorite part of your career?
I am reminded daily just how great of a company C.D. Smith is! Not only is C.D. Smith a superior builder, but the company treats it's employees with respect, values their opinions, and works to help them develop their own career paths. C.D. Smith is passionate about giving back to the communities in which we work and live, and I get to be a small part of something big!
What advice would you give someone starting out in the construction industry?
Take every opportunity you have to learn from those around you! From field employees to the office, I have yet to engage with a C.D. Smith employee not willing to help answer my questions and grow my skill set.
