CELEBRATing WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION
Breaking the Stigma in the Industry
FOND DU LAC, WI, March 2, 2020—C.D. Smith Construction celebrates Women in Construction Week in collaboration with The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) March 1-7. C.D. Smith has worked hard to increase the number of women in the industry and are now focusing on increasing the number of females in the field. Breaking the stigma that construction is a “man’s job” is the intent behind celebrating these women who chose to work in a predominantly male industry.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2018, there were nearly 11 million construction workers. Women made up nearly one million total construction workers, equating to just 10% of the workforce. This percentage includes administrative and office roles as well as field employees.
C.D. Smith is celebrating Women in Construction week through a social media campaign to recognize the roles they hold in the industry. Currently, women within C.D. Smith are working as apprentices, ironworkers, carpenters, laborers, crane operators, safety monitors, project managers, department heads and executive leaders. C.D. Smith puts a lot of trust in the women that help shape the company. Providing equal opportunity for women to flourish in their careers is important to the company’s success.
“As a company, we recognize the value of having a diverse workforce,” states President and CEO Justin Smith. “We simply would not be the company we are today without the strong women we employ.”
