C.D. Smith provided general contracting services for the expansion and renovation to the Fond du Lac Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility which resulted in a high efficiency, state-of-the-art upgrade that benefits Fond du Lac’s City Government, the Fond du Lac Regional Community as a whole, and the entire Lake Winnebago ecosystem.

There were three main goals for the project:

• Addressing new requirements that are part of the facilities discharge permit with the Department of Natural Resources.

• Addressing the hydraulic capacity, allowing a much greater capacity of fluid to be processed through the plant.

• Upgrading the facility to significantly reduce the labor requirements and increase the energy savings and efficiency of the entire operation.

With the completion of the project, bypassing untreated water into Lake Winnebago during heavy storms should become a distant memory. The new system was tested with the heavy flooding that took place in Fond du Lac in the June of 2008 storms and operated flawlessly ensuring no water was bypassed into the lake or backed up into residents basements.

This is the largest public project ever undertaken in the City of Fond du Lac.
