November has been a busy month at the Babcock Hall Dairy Plant Renovation project and Center for Dairy Research (CDR) addition at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. On November 1st, crews began pouring concrete and will be working through the winter pouring two levels of concrete decks. Once the decks are complete, then two levels of structural steel will be set for the Penthouse and future fifth floor.
Demo work has also been underway, with crews demoing the existing stairwell that will be converted into the new mechanical chase. The chase will extend from the ground floor mechanical room to the new penthouse and will house all of the new air handlers, pumps and air filtration systems. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) are in the process of extending piping in the existing building to the new CDR addition.
To prepare for the addition, this past year C.D. Smith constructed a new milk intake for milk deliveries as well as a loading dock area for Babcock Hall shipping and receiving. Once the new milk intake and loading dock were completed, the old milk intake and loading dock were ready to be demoed for the start of the CDR addition.
