As we begin our 85th year of business, we reflect on our beginnings at C.D. Smith. Our commitment has always been about much more than the business of building. We are committed to building a brighter future not only for our family but also for our community and future generations.
In 1936 during The Great Depression, Charles D. Smith, an estimator and project manager, started his own company. Charles worked relentlessly for five years before his son Donald decided to join the business and C.D. Smith & Son was born. They built their business on a tireless drive to exceed owners' expectations.
C.D. Smith continued to grow through strong leadership and the dedication of Thomas D. Baker, Donald's son Gary Smith and today is passionately led by Charles' great-grandson Justin. Today C.D. Smith is one of the Midwest's strongest construction firms. The company's foundation remains in the people and the principles Charles built the company on - meaningful relationships, unprecedented quality and the pursuit of total customer satisfaction.
While the company's reputation for high-quality construction continues to grow in Wisconsin, C.D. Smith is taking on projects across the United States in a variety of markets, including Arts + Entertainment, Civic + Government, Corporate, Education, Healthcare, Hospitality, Housing, Industrial and Mixed-Use + Retail. Eighty-five years later, C.D. Smith's 600+ associates still believe in building strong relationships and delivering quality in every aspect of their work. From humble beginnings, annual revenues now exceed 500 million dollars. C.D. Smith has built a new corporate headquarters in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and has added office locations in La Crosse, Madison and Milwaukee - celebrating 85 years of proven success.

C.D. Smith supports many local organizations through sponsorship programs and monetary donations in our community and in the communities with which we work. In the past 10 years, we have donated over $4 million to businesses and organizations throughout the state of Wisconsin, from small community clubs to large non-profit organizations.
Building community is the foundation of our organization. By supporting community initiatives, economic growth and development, we feel privileged to help ensure our team members have solid places to live, work, volunteer, serve and play.
Through a proactive safety program, strict standards and our “Think Safe. Work Safe.” campaign, we have built a solid culture where safety is our number one priority day in and day out.
