SOBIESKI, Wis. – (Nov. 2, 2023) – The Pulaski Community School District community gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony of Sunnyside Elementary School on Thursday, November 2, 2023.
The award-winning Pulaski Drumline welcomed Sunnyside staff, parents, the public, and students, all donning their C.D. Smith Construction hard hats. The event featured a brief program with speeches from key individuals, including Allison Space, Superintendent of the Pulaski Community School District, Marc McGuire, Project Manager at C.D. Smith, Clint Selle, VP at Bray Architects, and Sunnyside Principal, Marc Klawiter. The ceremony culminated with the symbolic turning of the dirt.
"We are thrilled to be a part of this project," said McGuire. "The community, faculty, and students are eager to witness the transformation, and their enthusiasm makes our job all the more enjoyable."
The project involves renovating portions of the existing 64,000-square-foot building, focusing on upgrading plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems. Additionally, a new 45,000-square-foot addition will provide space for a new library, 4K, kindergarten, and first-grade learning areas, a modern kitchen, and a secure main entrance connected to a spacious, well-lit cafeteria.
A Student Collaboration Hub will be created within the existing structure, featuring a learning stair with tiered seating for students, various classrooms, and soft seating, facilitating group instruction and team projects.
To enhance safety and accessibility, improvements will be made to the drop-off/pick-up area. These improvements will almost double the facility's capacity, enabling it to better accommodate the growing community.
