On May 9, 2024, Fond du Lac High School hosted its annual Architecture, Construction & Engineering (ACE) Academy Celebration. ACE Academy graduated 22 seniors this year and recognized 16 youth apprentices in a skilled trades-related field.
JF Ahern's Chief Safety Officer, Dustin Rusch, recognizes ACE Academy students for completing their OSHA 10.
The Celebration consisted of 2023 – 2024 ACE school year highlights, which included several activities from C.D. Smith Construction, such as the construction of the annual ACE Ice Shanty (which, by the way, was won by a guy from Florida), ACE masonry days, Project Management career day as was continued C.D. Smith support relating to mentorship, the Industry Promotional Committee and donation of time and supplies.
This year’s celebration had a special recognition for the retirement of Bob Roehrig from the Industry Promotional Committee, who was instrumental along with Pat Smith and AGC’s Executive Vice President Bob Barker in creating the Fond du Lac ACE Academy, which started in 2013!

The celebration recognized ACE students who'd participated or are participating in a Youth Apprenticeship this current year and for the upcoming year. C.D. Smith is excited to welcome McKenna Thome from the FDL ACE Academy program this coming school year. She will be starting this summer as a Construction Youth Apprentice working at the Boys and Girls Club in Ripon!
Scholarships and Grants were awarded to several FDL ACE Academy students through the David Cook Building Trades Education Fund, Easter Ridge Home Builders Association, and C.D. Smith Construction.
Connie Coon recognized Mason Forster on stage at Fond du Lac High School for winning one of the 2024 C.D. Smith Skilled Trades Grants.
C.D. Smith awarded six students in the Fond du Lac area a Skilled Trade or Construction Management Grant this spring. Mason Forster from FDL ACE Academy was awarded a $500 Skilled Trades Grant at the celebration and is interested in joining C.D. Smith to be a carpenter someday!
C.D. Smith continues to support Vern Widmer, ACE Academy Instructor, and the ACE Academy program at FDL High School as they continue to develop and grow our future workforce. Congratulations to all the 2023 - 2024 FDL ACE Academy students!
