Alex Venuti graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 2018. When asked what led him to the construction industry, Alex shares, "I have always enjoyed problem-solving on a project-to-project basis, and working on large vertical construction projects is the ultimate project in my eyes."
Shortly after his graduation, he joined the C.D. Smith team as a Project Engineer on the Springhill Suites project in Wauwatosa. "I enjoy getting to work with each trade and solving the variety of tasks we encounter each day. Being a Project Engineer means that you must be adaptable and ready to solve any number of problems that come your way," Alex shares. He then joined the Renaissance Milwaukee West Hotel project team and saw the project from start to finish.
After wrapping up the Renaissance, Alex immediately went to Ascent to break ground and has been on the Ascent project since day one. "Ascent has been a good challenge because not only is it going to be the tallest timber building in the world, but it also has several thousand yards of concrete as well," Alex explains. C.D. Smith is self-performing seven different scopes on the Ascent Project: Concrete, Masonry, Cold Form Metal Framing, Mass Timber, Reinforcing, Structural Steel, and Cable Vehicle Barrier. All of which require detailed engineering shop drawings, as well as production tracking that Alex is heavily involved in to ensure material arrives onsite when needed, schedule dates are met, as well as the profitability of each scope. "It has been impressive seeing how quickly our crews have adapted to the mass timber construction, and I look forward to being involved in the process as we keep moving vertically. Additionally, being on a two-year project has taught me the importance of prioritizing tasks for work that is currently happening and balancing the coordination of tasks that will occur in a year."
Construction has become a family business for the Venuti family. "My sister, Taylor Venuti, joined C.D. Smith last month as a Project Engineer too. She just graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a BS in Civil Engineering, and it's awesome we get to work for the same construction company." Alex is proud to work for a fourth-generation family-owned business that shares a family-focused atmosphere and commitment to construction.

Outside of work, Alex enjoys spending time with his girlfriend and playing with his new puppy at home. His hobbies include hiking, fishing, hunting, and watching Packer games.
Thank you, Alex, for getting things done right in the spirit of innovative problem-solving on a project-to-project basis. We appreciate you and your family's dedication to the profession of project engineering with C.D. Smith and proudly representing Who We Are!
